Vol. 253 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) Housing.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state with reference to the Dublin Corporation's current house building operation's at St. Patrick's Cottages, Rathfarnham the number and type of dwellings being built, the size of accommodation, the total cost and the dates on which they will be completed and handed over to tenants; if priority in the allocation of dwellings will be given to people from or working in or near to the Rathfarnham area having regard to the considerable local demand for housing; whether he or the corporation have received a petition to this effect; and, if so, what action will be taken thereon.

I understand that Dublin Corporation propose to provide 60 dwellings, comprising 24 four-roomed and 26 five-roomed, houses, at St. Patrick's Cottages, Rathfarnham. As I have not yet received the corporation's proposals for the acceptance of a tender for building the houses, I am not in a position to say what the total cost of the scheme will be or when it will be completed or let to tenants. The allocation of tenancies of these dwellings will be made by the corporation in accordance with their approved scheme of letting priorities. This scheme provides, inter alia, that “in the allocation of dwellings preference shall be given to local applicants, other things being equal, subject to the priorities set out in the scheme”. I have received no petition regarding this matter, and I understand that no such petition has been received by the corporation.
