Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Electricity Scheme.

41.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make free or subsidised electricity available to permanently disabled persons who are in receipt of assistance either from his Department or a local authority.

The scheme of free electricity was devised primarily for old age pensioners who are living alone or with certain specified persons only. Permanently disabled persons who are in receipt of old age pension and who satisfy the conditions may qualify for a free electricity allowance. Further extension of the scheme is not contemplated.
