59.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of judges in (a) the Supreme Court, (b) the High Court, (c) the Circuit Court and (d) the District Court.

The information sought is as follows:—

(a) Supreme Court

Chief Justice and four ordinary Judges.

(b) High Court

President and six ordinary Judges.

(c) Circuit Court

President and nine ordinary Judges.

(d) District Court

President and 34 District Justices.

The Chief Justice is ex officio an additional Judge of the High Court, the President of the High Court is ex officio an additional Judge of the Supreme Court and the President of the Circuit Court is ex officio an additional Judge of the High Court.

The figure of 34 District Justices does not include a District Justice who serves on a whole-time basis as Chairman of an Bord Uchtála and who is replaced in the District Court by a temporary Justice.
