asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether the ESB sought permission to increase charges to churches, garages and workshops during the 1970 clerical strike.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Charges.
The answer is "No". The Deputy may, however, be referring to the arrangements made by the ESB for collection of arrears following the strike by a number of their clerical staff which lasted from August, 1969, to February, 1970, during which period the board were unable to issue bi-mensal electricity bills. On the termination of the strike the board had to issue cumulative billings covering the period July, 1969, to June, 1970, in two billings.
As announced by the board in the national press on 9th and 10th September, 1969, the basic charges and the sliding scale charges for unit consumption for the special bills were the appropriate multiples of those applying to a normal bi-mensal bill. Unit rates were not affected. No special provision was made for churches, garages and workshops.
