asked the Minister for Defence the number of applications for 1917-21 service medals received from County Kerry from 1st January, 1969, to June, 1971; and the number of successful and unsuccessful applications.

Applications for medals are recorded alphabetically and not in county order. The total number of applications for the medal without bar is 62,307, and I regret that the figures for County Kerry asked for by the Deputy are not readily available. In view of the number of applications I do not feel that the time and work which would be involved in extracting the information would be justified.
