Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Lighting Grants.

114.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider allocating 100 per cent grants to local authorities for the provision of lighting in towns and villages on national primary roads.

Public lighting provided on main roads in built up areas normally attracts Road Fund grants of 50 per cent of main road upkeep allocations. Where the lighting is provided as part of a national primary road improvement scheme, the grant may be 100 per cent of cost. In present circumstances, I regard these arrangements as reasonable.
