Vol. 260 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Allowances.

101.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that members of the FCA on service have 40p per day deducted from their allowances; that similar deductions are not made from members of the regular army; and what steps he proposes to take to redress this situation.

I infer that the Deputy has in mind the fact that an allowance of 40p per day is payable to married officers of the permanent Defence Force who are separated from their families as a result of temporary duty away from their home stations and who are messed and accommodated in barracks. This allowance is not at present payable to married FCA officers in similar circumstances but their position in this respect is under examination.
