asked the Minister for Health the total number of maternity and gynaecological beds out of commission in the Rotunda Hospital on 30th April, 1972; and when he expects work will be completed on the roof of that hospital.

The total number of such beds out of commission on 30th April, 1972 was 21. It is hoped the work on the roof will be completed by 30th September, 1972.

asked the Minister for Health what plans his Department have for increasing the number of maternity beds in Dublin city hospitals.

Some 68 additional maternity beds are expected to become available in the Dublin area within a matter of months. Proposals which would provide a further 90-100 beds are under active consideration.

Is there any indication whether any of these beds will be situated on the north side of the city? If so, how many?

Some of them will be on the north side of the city. There will be 28 beds in Drumcondra hospital and 40 beds in the James Connolly Memorial Hospital.
