Vol. 260 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corrective Training Personnel.

18.

asked the Minister for Education the number of teachers, social welfare workers and corrective training officers allocated to the corrective training schools in the State.

The terms "corrective training schools" and "corrective training officers" are not official designations.

There are six reformatories or industrial schools to which children committed by the courts for offences may be sent. Special schools are recognised in each of these schools and the total number of recognised teachers in these schools is at present 18.

These institutions, with the exception of the recently-opened St. Laurence's School for boys at Finglas, themselves provide the staff other than the teaching staff.

The social work requirements of the school are supplied through the Department of Justice Welfare Service.
