Vol. 263 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Poisonous Substances.

163.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will furnish particulars of any regulation made under the Poisons Act, 1961, which affords protection against the use of poisonous substances to agricultural workers.

Such regulations under the Poisons Act, 1961, have not been made.

Can the Minister say why not?

To comply with the statutory regulations it was referred to the Poisons Council and it has not come back from them yet.

How long has it been with them?

Since 25th February. On 25th February the Poisons Council were informed that the Minister had under consideration the question of the introduction of legislation for the protection of persons in agricultural work. No reply has been received but this may have been due to the fact that the council were being reconstructed by the Minister for Health in the intervening period —another hitch.
