asked the Minister for Labour if he will enumerate the diseases classified as industrial diseases due to modern industry at the latest available date.

The answer is in the form of a statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

STATEMENT of Diseases Notifiable under the Factories Act, 1955, and the Mines and Quarries Act, 1965.

Factories Act, 1955

Mines and Quarries Act, 1965

lead, phosphorus, or arsenical or mercurial poisoning, or anthrax.

Poisoning or incapacity by—

aluminium

antimony

aundice due to tetrachlorethane or nitro- or amido-derivatives of benzene or other poisonous substance, epitheliomatous ulceration due to tar, pitch, bitumen, mineral oil or paraffin, or any compound, product or residue of any of these substances.

arsenic

cadmium

copper

lead

manganese

mercury

silver

zinc

chrome ulceration due to chromic acid or

any other mineral of a toxic nature

bichromate of potassium, sodium or

a compount of any of the foregoing

ammonium or any preparation of these

asbestos

substances.

cyanide or

nitrous fumes.

poisoning by carbon bisulphide,

aniline poisoning, chronic benzene poisoning,

Ankylostomiasis; anthracosis; bursitis or subcutaneous cellulitis;

manganese poisoning, compressed air illness, and toxic anaemia.

compressed air illness (caisson disease); dermatitis; infective jaundice; nystagmus; pneumoconiosis; silicosis.
