asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that a recent advertisement for the post of medical referee gave a lower salary scale for female doctors by comparison with male doctors; and whether he will ensure that there is parity of payment.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes".

Salary differentiation of the type referred to applies to professional positions generally in the civil service. Steps towards its elimination are being taken in accordance with the provisions of the recent national pay agreement.
