Vol. 265 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Monument.

127.

asked the Minister for Finance if there are any proposals before him for the requisition by the State of the Church Tower, Lusk, County Dublin as a national monument; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Kenny

The Commissioners of Public Works are in correspondence with the Representative Church Body with a view to having the Church Tower, Lusk, taken into State care for preservation as a national monument.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say how far these negotiations have advanced?

Mr. Kenny

Yes. The Representative Church Body has now offered to place the square tower and two medieval tombs under the guardianship of the Commissioners of Public Works for preservation as a national monument in conjunction with the Round Tower. The Commissioners have asked the Church Body if they would be prepared to transfer ownership of the tower to them. When that matter is settled the Office of Public Works will take further action.
