Vol. 265 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour.

128.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the restoration of the East Pier, Dún Laoghaire.

Mr. Kenny

The work referred to to by the Deputy is practically completed except for one item, the removal of part of a dolphin, and a contract for this is to be arranged.

129.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is intended to preserve Dún Laoghaire harbour as an amenity harbour.

Mr. Kenny

There is no proposal to diminish the amenities of Dún Laoghaire Harbour. When examining any proposals in connection with the harbour full consideration will be given to the requirements of the various users of it.

130.

asked the Minister for Finance if in view of the unkempt appearance of the West Pier, Dún Laoghaire, he will have the situation rectified urgently; and if he will make a general statement about the West Pier as an amenity.

132.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate his proposals to improve the entrance facilities from the main thoroughfare, across the railway tracks, to the West Pier, Dún Laoghaire.

133.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that motorists have been using the West Pier, Dún Laoghaire; and if he will have barriers erected to ensure that this practice ceases.

Mr. Kenny

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 130, 132 and 133 together.

The public are allowed to use both levels of the West Pier. A barrier, which was removed for a short time recently but has now been replaced, prevents motorists driving down the pier but members of a yacht club at the root have parking facilities there. The levels are not surfaced but they are not unkempt; certainly no one has complained of their condition before. The level crossing is not a concern of the Commissioners of Public Works.

131.

asked the Minister for Finance if arrangements will be made to introduce continental-type automatic gates at the railway adjacent to the West Pier, Dún Laoghaire.

Mr. Kenny

The Commissioners of Public Works have no such proposal since the crossing is not their property.
