asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that 28 countries have signed the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and other Matter; if the Government are prepared to sign it with a view to early ratification; and, if not, why.

Arrangements are in train for the signing of this convention on behalf of Ireland with a view to early ratification. The convention has not yet come into effect and will not do so until 15 countries have ratified it.
