Vol. 265 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Statistics.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any proposals to assist Irish firms in complying with EEC requirements on industrial statistics.

The Central Statistics Office is the primary State agency for assisting Irish firms in complying with EEC requirements on industrial statistics. I do not consider that any special assistance from my Department is called for. The EEC requirements will, of course, have to be complied with by industrial firms in all member countries.

Will it not involve a number of Irish firms in quite considerable expense? Would the Minister consider making money available from State funds to assist them?

The Deputy recognises that the requirements are the same for all of the participating countries. The keeping of detailed records and statistics are obligatory management requirements in firms anyway and I do not propose to introduce any special financial inducements to help the position.

The EEC goes further than the present requirement.
