Vol. 267 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Guided Forest Walks.

5.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will arrange for the provision for children of early morning guided educational tours on forest walks.

(Cavan): Self-guided nature and forest trails have already been provided at 13 locations throughout the country and some further such trails are planned. Explanatory leaflets containing information on the plant, animal and bird life along each trail are available. This system is considered sufficient to meet the present needs of school groups organising educational tours in the forest.

Would the Minister have a personal look at the literature which his Department publish in this connection? It could be made a lot more informative and produced a lot more practically. The Forestry Division of his Department are doing a magnificent job in this regard. It is very important work and will be of very great benefit in the future. I am suggesting that the Minister should have a personal look at this to see if a little more imagination could be brought to bear on the project.

(Cavan): I certainly will have a look at the literature in question to see if any improvement can be made.

To the whole project.

(Cavan): Exactly.
