Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Copper Find.

112.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to reports of a huge copper find near Dundalk; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The area in question is included in an area granted under prospecting licence No. 1510 to Hibernian International Development Corporation Limited. Particulars of this licence are shown in the report under the Minerals Development Acts laid before the House on 6th March, 1973.

The licensee is required to carry out a work programme in the licence area and to lodge reports of work done under the licence. The information contained in these reports is confidential unless the licensee agrees to its release and the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be proper for me to make a statement on the matter. Pending completion of the company's continuing investigations, it will not be possible to state whether the current prospecting will result in the establishment of a mine.
