Vol. 268 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim-Roscommon Industrialisation.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans to meet the demand of Boyle Chamber of Commerce, County Roscommon that further industries be set up in the town or in the surrounding area.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware Boyle has been specified as a location for industry in the Industrial Development Authority's regional industrial plans, 1973-77.

I have been informed that, in order to encourage industrial development in Boyle as envisaged in the plans, the IDA intends to build an advance factory there as soon as a suitable site has been acquired. IDA is currently endeavouring, in conjunction with the local authority, to identify and purchase such a site.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of sites for industry which have been purchased in Counties Roscommon and Leitrim by (a) Leitrim County Development Committee (b) Roscommon County Development Committee and (c) the IDA or its regional bodies; the location of the sites; and when it is hoped to establish industries there.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of advance factories which have been constructed in (a) County Leitrim and (b) County Roscommon; the number now in actual use; and when it is hoped to establish industries in the remaining factories.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any proposals for the further industrialisation of (a) County Leitrim and (b) County Roscommon.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 30, 31 and 32 together.

I am informed that the IDA has built advance factories at Carrigallen and Mohill in County Limerick and at Castlerea and Roscommon in County Roscommon. The Carrigallen and Castlerea factories are now occupied while the other two have been reserved for projects now under discussion with IDA.

In addition to the land purchased for these factories, the IDA have acquired sites at Carrick-on-Shannon and Roscommon. The IDA regional industrial plans for 1973-77 include the target of 550 new jobs in manufacturing in each of these counties.

The IDA are using their resources to ensure the achievement of these targets within the specified period. Advance factories will also be provided in Carrick-on-Shannon, Manorhamilton, Ballaghadereen and Boyle.

The Minister referred to County Limerick?

The Minister is not too familiar with the west.

I misread my reply; it is County Leitrim.

Poor old Leitrim.
