I am not aware that the statements recently attributed in newspaper reports to the outgoing president of the Irish Veterinary Union reflect the views of the union and the vast majority of their members. I do not, therefore, feel called upon to comment on the reports. The statements, I am informed, were not made by the outgoing president during the union's annual general meeting but to newspaper reporters afterwards.
