Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Food Directive.

11.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps he proposes to take to implement the food commodity directive of the Council of Ministers of the EEC regarding cocoa and chocolate products intended for human consumption.

As the Deputy is aware, compliance with directives of the Council of the European Communities is obligatory on all member states. The directive on the approximation of the laws of the member states relating to cocoa and chocolate products intended for human consumption provides that member states shall where necessary amend their laws in accordance with the provisions of the directive. The preparation of the necessary legislation is at present in hands in my Department.
