Vol. 271 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Dublin All-Irish School.

25.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that students attending the all-Irish school, Marlboro' Street, Dublin cannot obtain suitable text books; and when this unsatisfactory position will be remedied.

Mr. R. Burke

Texts in Irish are available in all but one of the seven aspects of the curriculum; that is, social and environmental studies. I am aware that there is a lack of suitable text-books in Irish for one aspect of the new primary school curriculum, that is, for social and environmental studies. Steps are being taken by my Department to have suitable textbooks available for this aspect of the curriculum as soon as possible.

Is it to be taken, apart from the exception which the Minister mentions, that textbooks in connection with the new curriculum are available for every other subject and in respect of every class?

Mr. R. Burke

That is my information.

Would the Minister accept that it is quite possible that his information is not correct?

Mr. R. Burke

It is always possible but I am resonably happy that the situation is as I have outlined.

How extensively has the Minister probed this matter to get the information which he now gives to the House?

Mr. R. Burke

With the same alacrity as previous Ministers have probed in relation to questions put to them. In regard to Irish and English, as the Deputy will realise, the matter does not arise for obvious reasons.
