Vol. 271 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Pedestrian Crossing.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in providing a pedestrian crossing at Monasterevan, County Kildare.

The provision of pedestrian crossings is a matter for the road authority concerned acting at the request or with the consent of the Garda Commissioner. My Department are involved only where it is proposed that Road Fund moneys should be used to finance such a project.

The county council's proposal in relation to Monasterevan is to instal pedestrian-operated traffic signals but on the basis of vehicular and pedestrian counts supplied by the council, I am advised that such an installation would not be warranted and the expenditure of Road Fund moneys would not, therefore, be justified.
