I have seen the statement by the Construction Industry Federation. I had already decided that a White Paper on housing was necessary. The first essential of any such paper is an up-to-date and comprehensive assessment of housing needs, which I have arranged and which will be completed by local authorities in each of their areas just as soon as the full housing results of the 1971 Census of Population become available and when the results of the sample survey of housing stock recently carried out by An Foras Forbartha have been fully considered.
