Vol. 272 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department has sanctioned the carrying out of the Portmagee sewerage scheme by Kerry County Council; and, if not, if he will state the date on which approval will be forthcoming.

The proposals initially submitted for this scheme require revision and updating. A report in this connection is at present being prepared by the local authority and should, I understand, be available shortly.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of applications for group water schemes in County Clare at present awaiting sanction in his Department.

Six proposals for group water schemes in County Clare are at present under examination in my Department with a view to the allocation of the appropriate grants.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give me any indication of when he will be in a position to reach a decision on this matter?

I have not the information at my disposal but I will give the Deputy details of the scheme later.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if he is satisfied that there are sufficient Department inspectors for the number of group schemes operating generally?

That is clearly a separate question. The question at present under discussion refers to County Clare.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are any proposals for sewerage schemes in County Clare awaiting approval in his Department.

Proposals for a sewerage scheme for Killaloe were submitted to my Department on the 5th March, 1974, and are being examined.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government the proposals for a sewerage scheme at Muff, County Donegal, that have been sanctioned by his Department.

My Department approved of the appointment of a consultant to prepare a preliminary report for this scheme. The report has not yet been received.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the consultant was appointed?

On 29th August, 1972.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent necessity of providing a comprehensive scheme for the treatment and disposal of sewerage in the lower Cork Harbour areas of Passage, Glenbrook, Monkstown, Ringaskiddy, etc.; and if he will make a statement on the position.

I am aware that there is a need for the provision of an adequate sewage disposal system in Cork including the areas referred to by the Deputy. The method of disposal to be adopted will however depend on the outcome of the comprehensive survey at present being undertaken jointly by Cork Corporation, Cork County Council, and Cork Harbour Commissioners.

When is it likely that this comprehensive survey will be completed?

Sin cheist eile.

An bhfuil níos mó ann ná mar atá ar an bpáipéar os ár gcomhair?

Sin cheist eile.

Nach bhfuil an tuaraisc go léir agat?

Níl sé sin ós ár gcomhair.

That is relevant. In fact it is very relevant.

The Chair decides these matters.

Surely the date is important here. I should like to ask the Parliamentary Secretary if he is aware of a serious sewerage problem in the residential area facing the seafront? In view of the fact that he has not been able to give an approximate date when this survey will be completed, will he take immediate steps to alleviate the present problem?

I am aware of the difficulty that exists and my Department is doing everything to remedy the position.

Will this be done before the warm weather comes?

The Parliamentary Secretary is awaiting the report, I presume.
