asked the Minister for Health the steps being taken to investigate the causes of crippling diseases in this country.

Investigations of this nature may be undertaken by research organisations which have been established to carry out such research, for example the Medical Research Council and the Medico-Social Research Board. Studies which are currently being carried out include investigations of the factors associated with a number of conditions, such as strokes and multiple sclerosis, which could be described as crippling.
