No date has been fixed for the taking over of the Grand Canal by the Office of Public Works.
As I indicated in previous replies to similar questions, an ad hoc group, comprised of representatives of the Departments concerned, CIE and Bord Fáilte are at present examining certain aspects of the proposed transfer of the canals to the Office of Public Works. On receipt of the group's report, legislative proposals relating to the future of the canals will be formulated.
