Vol. 273 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Plotholders.

41.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the very slow progress being made on the Phoenix Park extension, Dublin, plotholders will be facilitated again.

Because of the possibility that works could commence in the near future, it would not be practicable to facilitate the plotholders. In any event, from a visual point of view I am not in favour of the use of this area for allotment purposes.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that, on the advice given to me, I gave notice to these people to leave the plots when they could have got at least one more season out of them? Apparently he is dragging his feet on this matter because work has not started on the plots.

Mr. Kenny

Is the Deputy saying that before he left office he gave permission to these people to keep the plots?

To the end of the season. I gave notice to them to quit when the harvest was completed.

Mr. Kenny

Notice was given to quit and the former plotholders could not have been able to use the plots from September, 1972, until now. They got notice to quit before September, 1972. They got a period of grace then to gather up their vegetables and clean out the plots. The last date was September, 1972, and this is June, 1974.

The Parliamentary Secretary is aware that they could have been rotating crops. There is no sign of any work taking place.

Mr. Kenny

They could have had another year were it not for the impasse which arose between the corporation and the Office of Public Works regarding the road widening problem. If they were let back again they would not have the benefit of the plots because a lot of levelling work was done, and so on, to prepare for the golf course.

The people there are very upset and I am blamed.

Mr. Kenny

You are well able to take it.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary take a decision on the complications regarding the deer?

Mr. Kenny

That is another question.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
