Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 5 Jun 1974

Vol. 273 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 15 and 16 and, in No. 16, Vote 43, resumed.

May I ask the Taoiseach in view of the almost unprecedented step taken by the British in having Parliament recalled to discuss the grave situation in the Six Counties, and further in view of the discussions on our own media by those in the Six Counties about the situation in the Six Counties, is it not extraordinarily strange that in Dublin we do not have any discussion whatsoever? Have we no role at all to play in this matter? Are we to have a discussion?

It is not proposed at the moment to have a discussion.

Could I further ask the Taoiseach whether he has taken note of the rather grave turn which events are taking, apparently, as indicated by the spokesmen in West-minister during this debate, whereby it is becoming a two dimensional problem again. This is heading for absolute total disaster. The Irish third dimension must not be lost sight of. I believe this is the place for discussion.

The Deputy is embarking on a speech.

Fair enough if it can be so regarded. I only wish it could be.

I wish to raise the subject matter of the Dublin bus strike on the Adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
