Vol. 274 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Toilet Facilities.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the proposals by Dublin Corporation to remove the public toilet facilities at the junction of Rathmines and Rathgar Roads, he will state whether alternative facilities will be provided in the area.

The provision of public toilet facilities is primarily a matter for the local authority to decide on. There are no proposals before me in regard to the particular area mentioned in the question.

May I ask the Minister, when permission has been granted for the construction of, say, a new supermarket or that type of building, is it a requirement that there should be both ladies' and gents' toilet facilities in them for the use of the public?

I would not be able to tell Deputy Lemass that. If he likes I shall write to him and give the information.

I appreciate that, but I think a number of them have been built without that facility.
