Vol. 274 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathdowney (Laois) Electricity Supply.

21.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the inadequacy of the electricity supply to the town of Rathdowney, County Laois; and when this position will be remedied.

I am informed by the ESB that the board have not received any complaints recently regarding inadequate voltage in the town of Rathdowney. There were voltage problems late last year but these were eliminated by replacing the transformer supplying the town with a larger transformer. Since then, as far as the board are aware, the position has been satisfactory.

The board have made provision in their planning programme for the erection of a new 38 kw transformer station later this year to cater for future development in Rathdowney. This will ensure that an adequate electricity supply will continue to be available in the long term.
