Vol. 276 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Derelict Site Clearance.

84.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to take any action to have the ruins of old houses and other derelict structures other than those of archaeological merit cleared by the owner to improve the appearance of the rural and urban scene.

Action in relation to the clearance of derelict sites and structures is primarily a matter for the local authorities who have powers under the Derelict Sites Act, 1961, to deal with the matter including the power, where necessary, to acquire compulsorily the site or structure.
