Vol. 276 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Aqueous Seaweed Extract.

111.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will initiate a pilot survey to determine the effects of aqueous seaweed extract on sugar beet and potato output.

The value of soil nutrients and other elements in seaweed is already well established.

In the opinion of technical officers of my Department, these consituents are not present in sufficient quantities to render the general use of aqueous seaweed extract economic as a fertiliser. In the circumstances I do not propose to initiate a pilot survey as suggested. In any event, such a survey would be more properly a function of An Foras Talúntais.
