Vol. 279 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

49.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why a telephone has not been installed for a person (name supplied); and if, in view of the fact that this person is transport manager of a company (name supplied) in south Tipperary, he will arrange for immediate installation.

It is hoped to attend to the application in question within the next three months. The application has been on the deferred list with other applications requiring abnormal linework because of heavy arrears of work in the engineering district concerned.

50.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephones provided in the Tallaght area, County Dublin since the opening of the new telephone exchange at Tallaght.

The number of telephones provided in the Tallaght area since the exchange was opened is about 560.

51.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephones provided in the Springfield area of Tallaght, County Dublin, since the opening of the new telephone exchange at Tallaght.

About 160.

52.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants still awaiting telephone installation in the Tallaght/Springfield area, County Dublin.

The number of applicants still waiting attention in the Springfield area is about 120.

53.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of new telephones provided in the Greenpark estate, Walkinstown and Kilnamanagh estate, Greenhills Road, Tallaght, since the opening of the new telephone exchange at Tallaght, County Dublin.

No applications for Greenpark estate, Walkinstown or Kilnamanagh estate, Greenhills Road, Tallaght, have been attended to since the exchange was opened because local estate development has only now reached the stage when underground cables can be laid.

54.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the erection of a telephone kiosk at Roseberry, Droichead Nua, County Kildare.

The use likely to be made of a kiosk in the Roseberry area would not be sufficient to justify providing one there at present.

55.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the category which receives priority for telephone installation.

The categories are broadly as follows:—

Members of the Oireachtas and diplomats; Public services including central and local authorities; Persons engaged in health services including hospitals, doctors and district nurses; Clergymen engaged on parochial duties; Industrial, commercial and other undertakings providing a significant amount of employment; Businesses and professions having particular need for telephone service, for example, travel agencies, ladies' hairdressers, registered hotels and guesthouses, solicitors, full-time journalists; National unions and associations; Existing subscribers moving to new premises; Other applications in which really exceptional need can be shown for example on health or distress grounds.

The order in which I have listed the priority classes does not necessarily indicate their relative priority.
