Vol. 279 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Traffic Lights.

6.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will recommend that traffic lights be erected at the junction of Old Bawn Road and Seskin View Avenue, Tallaght, County Dublin.

The installation of traffic lights at any particular location is a matter for the road authority concerned acting at the request or with the consent of the Garda Síochána.

I am aware of that but it is a very urgent matter and I would appreciate it if the Minister would help in the situation. Perhaps he would make a recommendation that traffic lights be provided. There is some information I am not in a position to reveal to the House. I had tabled a question but it could not be accepted. In view of this, I would appreciate if the Minister would make a recommendation to have traffic lights provided at this junction.

I have no authority to do so. However, I can tell the Deputy that Dublin County Council have informed me that they are making a comprehensive survey of the Old Bawn Road, to consider such matters as the speed limit, pedestrian and traffic lights, other roadworks and so on. Therefore, the matter is receiving active consideration by the local authority.

Is the Minister aware that Dublin County Council have already taken a traffic count for this and are negotiating with the Traffic Section of the Garda Síochána in Dublin Castle with a view to having traffic lights erected at this location?

No, I am not so aware. Deputy McMahon obviously knows more about it than I do. But it is not a matter for the Department anyway.
