Vol. 281 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Improvement Schemes.

3.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Land Commission do not contribute to local improvement schemes although such schemes may benefit lands held by it; and if he will now make the necessary arrangements to permit the Land Commission to contribute.

(Cavan): The question of contribution to local improvement schemes does not normally arise in connection with the Land Commission's land settlement operations.

Where, however, such schemes would be of benefit to lands in their possession the Land Commission would make a contribution towards their cost on application by the local authority.

Is the Minister aware that this is not actually happening. I am glad he has made that statement because I can give him a specific case where two people were involved and the Land Commission would not contribute, despite the fact that they would benefit later. This can upset the whole scheme.

(Cavan): I find it hard to understand or accept the Deputy's statement.

I can give the Minister the case.

(Cavan): If the Deputy is here later on I shall be answering a question put down by one of his colleagues from which it is clear that they are in that case and in a neighbouring county making a contribution. However, if Deputy Meaney brings the case to my attention I shall have it looked into.
