Vol. 286 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Cork School.

268.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange to have a third teacher retained at Rockchapel national school, County Cork as the average number of school children on the roll is likely to increase; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An average enrolment of at least 70 children would be necessary to warrant the retention of a third teacher at this school. The present enrolment is only 58 and I am advised that this figure is likely to increase to no more than 62 in the coming school year. Since there appears to be no prospect of the school obtaining an average enrolment of 70 in the foreseeable future, I regret that the retention of a third teacher would not be warranted.
