Vol. 286 No. 12

Written Answers. - Flat Rents Control.

83.

asked the Minister for Justice if he proposes to introduce legislation to control rents demanded by landlords from flat dwellers; if he will establish a tribunal to investigate and adjudicate upon disputes between landlords and tenants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In my reply to a question in this House last May about the rents being charged to flat dwellers it was stated that the whole subject of the availability, suitability and cost of private rented accommodation was being reviewed. This review has not been completed and pending its completion the question of my introducing legislation or establishing a tribunal must be deferred. However, in regard to the control of rents generally, at least in the short term, I would refer the Deputy to the Taoiseach's statement in this House yesterday.
