Vol. 287 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Coast Examination.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will approve the preliminary examination under the Coast Protection Act, 1963 of the following eight locations as submitted by Dublin County Council: (a) Velvet Stand, Portmarnock (b) Loughshinney Harbour (c) North Shore, Skerries (d) Barnageeragh (e) the area south of Balbriggan Harbour (f) Burrow, Portrane (g) South County coastline and (h) Rogerstown.

The Commissioners of Public Works have noted all these cases for examination but it is not possible at present to say when.

Is the Paliamentary Secretary aware that while the Department are causing these delays large tracks of the coastline in North and South County Dublin are being eaten away by the sea? Up to 20 or 30 yards of coastline is taken away every year.

These proposals were submitted to the Department as late as 10th June, 1975.

Can he give us any indication when he will be pepared to approve this?

I cannot.

Will it be in the coming year, the following year——

It will be a long time.

In the meantime the householders and their property are under constant threat from the sea.

As the Deputy is aware, it is not a problem peculiar to County Dublin—it is countrywide.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary consider adding to the technical staff?

Add some money.
