Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Park Rangers.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps that have been taken to provide park rangers with suitable cycles and walkie-talkie radios and to ensure that the most up-to-date means of transport and communication are available to patrol staff.

At present one motorcycle and two motor-vans are being used for patrol purposes in parks under the care of the Commissioners of Public Works. Two further patrol vehicles have been ordered and will be put into service as soon as they become available.

Walkie-talkie radios are being used on an experimental basis in the Killarney National Park and the question of introducing a more effective communication system is being investigated.

I am mainly concerned here with walkie-talkies in the Phoenix Park because occasionally undesirable youths come in there and the park ranger on his own cannot cope.

I agree with the Deputy.
