Vol. 287 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Statue Cleaning.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will set up a special task force to ensure that all historical statues will be cleaned rapidly should they be defaced by vandals.

I am satisfied that there is adequate staff available at present to clean as and when necessary the historical statues and monuments under the control of the Commissioners of Public Works.

I am not sure if it is the responsibility of the Office of Public Works—it may be the responsibility of Dublin Corporation—but in Kildare Place there is a statue with daubing on it.

If it is my responsibility I shall have the matter rectified.

If it is not, will the Parliamentary Secretary communicate with the corporation or, if it is privately owned, with the trustees?

Will do.
