Written Answers. - School Building and Extensions.

128.

asked the Minister for Education when the proposed extension for St. Mary and St. Gerard's National School at Enniskerry, County Wicklow, will be commenced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Revised sketch plans prepared by the architect commissioned to design the extension to this school have been approved by my Department and are now being examined by the Office of Public Works.

It is not possible at this stage to say when the work will be put in hands.

asked the Minister for Education the latest position regarding the proposed new national school for Ashford, County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The existing Ashford national school will be adapted and extended to provide an up-to-date five-classroom school with a general purposes room and other additional facilities. Sketch plans have been prepared by the Office of Public Works and my Department have now sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the scheme.

asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be given for the extension of Saint Ann's Boys' National School, Sligo.

My Department have recently sanctioned a grant towards the cost of an extension scheme at Saint Ann's Boys' National School, Sligo. It is not possible to say at present when building work on the project will commence.

asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, for a new building for Shillelagh National School, County Wicklow.

It has been decided that the existing Shillelagh national school should be replaced by a new school on a new site. The reverend chairman of the school's management board has been asked to take steps to obtain a suitable site for the proposed new school.

133.

asked the Minister for Education his proposals for a new primary school building at Valleymount, County Wicklow.

My Department have sanctioned a grant towards the cost of erecting a new school having four classrooms and a general purposes room at Valleymount. The arrangements for the erection of the school are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works.
