Vol. 289 No. 5

Written Answers. - Certificates of Reasonable Value.

88.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether a firm (name supplied) in Cork has received a certificate of reasonable value from his Department in respect of the range of system-built houses it is currently marketing; and whether it is a condition of such certificate that the houses should be of such quality as to be eligible for a loan from his Department.

The answer to the first part of the question is "No". Such a certificate would be issued only in respect of a specific house or houses in a scheme of four houses or more provided for sale.

In reply to the second part of the question, these certificates are issued only when my Department are satisfied that the houses comply with the structural requirements for grant type houses and do not exceed the maximum floor area of 116 square metres. I understand that local authorities do not normally pay house purchase loans unless a certificate of grant approval or, in appropriate cases, a certificate of reasonable value has issued.
