Vol. 293 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Correction Centres.

10.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the serious shortage of places in correction centres for juveniles sentenced by the courts for vandalism, the result of which is that they cannot be treated; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

11.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of juveniles sentenced by the courts this year who have not yet been admitted for treatment to correction centres.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

My responsibility as far as the provision of accommodation for juvenile offenders is concerned is confined to the 16 to 21 age group. No offenders in that age-group are awaiting committal to custody because of shortage of places.
