Vol. 295 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundancy Repayment.

27.

asked the Minister for Labour why a person in Dublin (details supplied) was not awarded the amount of redundancy repayment to which he claims to be entitled.

In accordance with the provisions of the Redundancy Payments (Weekly Payments) Order, 1976, approved by resolutions of both Houses of the Oireachtas, a person commencing a period of interruption of employment on or after 21st June, 1976, has been subject to a rule which limits the aggregate of his social welfare payments, redundancy weekly payments and refunds of income tax to 85 per cent of his net average weekly earnings while employed, or £50 per week, whichever is the lesser.

I am advised that the deciding officer in the employment exchange decided that the period of interruption of employment of the person referred to in the question commenced on 21st June, 1976. I am further advised that following an application to the Minister for Social Welfare, the decision is being examined.
