Vol. 300 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the Slattery estate, Flaskagh Beg, Dunmore, County Galway will be divided amongst the tenants this year.

Proposals for the disposal of these lands are at present being formulated. It is unlikely, however, that the lands can be alloted this year but the aim would be to allocate them early next year.

I thank the Parliamentary Secretary for his reply. I am sure he is aware that an abnormally high rent is extracted each year from the tenants adjacent to this farm and in two years, half the total cost price of that farm has been paid back in rent. It is only a small portion of land. Will he review it with a view to having it divided among the tenants before the next rent is due to be paid?

I am fully aware of the situation in regard to this estate. I have already made representations on behalf of the tenants in that area. The lands were set by public auction and the price being extracted was bid at the public auction.
