Vol. 301 No. 1

Written Answers. - Building Society Directors.

417.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy (a) the total number of directors of Irish building societies, (b) the total amounts of emoluments paid to such directors during the last financial year in salaries, fees, pensions and other payments and (c) the total amounts spent by the societies on advertising during the last financial year.

I have been informed by the Registrar of Building Societies that the returns forwarded by the 20 societies which are on the register at present show a total of 123 persons holding directorships in the societies at the end of the 1976 financial year. The annual returns are not required to give and do not give the breakdown the Deputy requires with regard to directors' salaries. They show that the societies spent a total of £1,071,025 on advertising, commission and agency fees in 1976.
