Vol. 301 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Donegal Dental Services.

424.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the serious position in County Donegal where vacancies for dental surgeons are unfilled for years and that many medical card holders and school children have not been treated.

I am aware that at present, and for many years past, it has been difficult to recruit sufficient dentists to provide satisfactory services in Donegal despite the efforts of the health board to recruit temporary dentists where it has not been possible to fill permanent vacancies through the Local Appointments Commission.

I am concerned about the unsatisfactory situation in relation to dental services generally and, in my consideration of methods of improving them I intend to review specially the position of Donegal and other areas in which there are currently shortages of staff.
