Vol. 302 No. 8

Written Answers. - New House Grants.

203.

asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the number of people in County Meath who applied for the £1,000 new house grant; (b) the number who have qualified for it; and (c) the number who have been paid the grant.

Two hundred and eighty applications have been received so far from County Meath for the £1,000 new house grant. Of these, one has been approved for a grant but none has been paid as yet.

Progress with the examination of applications from County Meath was affected by the fact that records held in the county council offices of individual payments under the former new house grants scheme, which are essential for the processing of applications for the £1,000 grant, and which the council were requested on 15th August to forward to the Department were not transferred until the end of November.

204.

asked the Minister for the Environment why the £1,000 new house grant has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Meath who appears to qualify for it.

Payment of the £1,000 new house grant cannot be made until an inspection has been made and it is confirmed that all the requirements of the grants scheme have been met. A grant has been allocated to this person and an inspection of the house is being arranged with a view to early payment.

205.

asked the Minister for the Environment why a new house grant has not been paid to an applicant (name and details supplied) in the Mallow area of County Cork.

A grant of £300 was allocated to this applicant and an instalment of £180 was paid in November, 1975.

Payment of the balance of £120 is withheld until defects, which were notified to the applicant, have been rectified.
