Vol. 302 No. 10

Written Answers. - Western Development Board.

67.

asked the Minister for the Public Service for the present position regarding the setting up of a Western Development Board.

The Government do not intend to proceed with the proposal of the previous Government to establish a Western Development Board. Instead, it is intended that the process of economic and social planning will be designed to secure the progressive development of the economy as a whole both as regards its different sectors and as regards the needs of the different regions of the country.

In this process, western development will be an integral part of national development and the special needs of the West will be fully and sympathetically taken into account in the allocation of resources for development and in the promotion of the industrial and infrastructural bases.
